William Wade Brueggeman, 72, of North Apollo died at 5:26 a.m. Thursday (Jan 1, 2004) in Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, East Franklin, where he had been a patient since Dec. 23. He died after a lingering illness. Born June 10, 1931, in Akron, Ohio, he lived in North Apollo since 1958. A veteran, he served in the Army Reserves. He owned and operated Wade's Shoe Store, Vandergrift, from 1958 until 1980. He also was chief property tax assessor in Armstrong County before retiring in 1996. Mr. Brueggeman was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he was a member of the choir and Thrivent, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, all in Vandergrift, Apollo Elks, Apollo-Spring Church Sportsman's Club and Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed coin dealing, fishing, the outdoors and being chief cook of the Easter Sunday breakfast at his church. Survivors . include his wife of 53 years, Eleanor S. Bella Brueggeman; two sons, Gary W. (Jan) Brueggeman of House Springs, MO, and Timothy W. Brueggeman of Apollo; three daughters, Connie S. (Michael) Case of Oak Harbor, Ohio, Janet C. (Jeffrey) Hancock of Shelocta and Ellen E. (Dr. James) Stewart of Johnstown; 17 grandchildren: four great-grandchildren; a brother, James A. Brueggeman of Yellow Springs, Ohio; and two sisters, Lois Smith of Akron and Carolyn Ruff of Carlisle, PA. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Aaron W. Bartel; his parents, Edwin L. and Esther Grelle Brueggeman; a brother, Edwin L. Brueggeman Jr.; and a sister, Marjorie Vasilev. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
