Hilliards School House
In pictures that Selma left was this picture. I had overlooked it until today. It is such a great picture of the school house that the Brueggeman children attended. Selma frequently only labeled her father, herself, and one or two of her sisters.
Be sure to double click on the picture to look at it bigger. I am sure the picture includes some, if not all, of her older siblings. I would guess the boy on the far right side in the dark shirt is Gus (August) as his hair surely looks like "Brueggeman hair". Selma was born in 1899 and if she attended school at this time, this would make the picture from around 1905. We should be able to find Louise (approximately 15-16), Emma (14-15), Edwin (11-12), and Gus (9-10). Linda is marked and she would be approximately 7-8. Ernst August looks so young standing next to the bicycle.

Family Picture Friday: August and Cousin Irma
This picture came from Selma. She labeled it Cousin Irma and August (Gus). I believe Irma is Irma Long, daughter of Fred Long, granddaughter of Charles Long. She would have been 16 in this picture and Gus would have been 21.

On this Day in 1918..
Ernst August Brueggemann Jr and Dora Loose married on this day in 1918.
Gus sure had the Brueggeman hair!
From Selma's Diary:
August was married by Rev. Lothmann, Lousie and O.K. (Editor Note: Louise was eldest sister and OK was her future husband, Otto Krausman) were best man and maid of honor, Augusta Kocha and Edwin also stood up with Dora and August. We had a wedding supper at Looses' house and was very good including chicken and everything else that was good. Then in the evening Dora and August went to Cleveland where they spent their wedding moon......It rained and we had to carry Emma's children home. Emma was also at the wedding, all our family were there except Walter and he could not come as he was at Concordia College....We all had to cry a little bit when August left, but it was no wonder to think of losing such a good brother, he certainly was always good to his folks.
